June 2026 - Fetse Lab LNP Team at BIO International 2026
Members of the Fetse Lab lipid nanoparticle (LNP) team attended the BIO International Convention 2026 in San Diego, California.

As part of our participation in the NSF I-Corps program, the team conducted customer discovery interviews with leaders across the RNA therapeutics and LNP fields. These conversations provided valuable insight into current challenges in RNA delivery, unmet needs in LNP development, and priorities for translating new delivery technologies toward clinical applications. The insights gained will help inform the direction of our research and ensure that the technologies we develop address important needs in the field.

We are excited to welcome Sofia Monaco, our 2026 Binghamton University Projects for New Undergraduate Researchers (BUPNUR) Summer Research Intern, to the Fetse Lab. This summer, Sofia will contribute to our research on peptide-based modulators of protein-protein interactions, gaining hands-on experience in peptide therapeutics and drug discovery. We are excited to have Sofia join the team and look forward to a productive summer of research!

We are excited to welcome Samiratu Aminu, our 2026 CSTEP Undergraduate Summer Research Intern, to the Fetse Lab. This summer, Samira will contribute to our research on minimally invasive therapeutics. We are excited to have Samira join the team and look forward to a productive summer of research!
May 2026 - The Fetse Lab was proudly represented at Binghamton University Research Day by Marin Penner, a rising researcher in our group. Marin’s research focuses on developing light-responsive biomaterials for non-invasive delivery of peptide therapeutics. Her work explores how these materials can enable controlled, on-demand drug release while improving the stability and delivery of therapeutic peptides.
May 2026 - Congratulations to Smit Patel!
We are excited to congratulate PharmD student Smit Patel on being selected for the Summer 2026 Research Scholarship through the Binghamton University School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. This opportunity will support Smit as he continues his research in the Fetse Lab over the summer.

April 2026 - A big shoutout to these outstanding students from the Fetse Lab for representing our group at recent research conferences!
Sophia Kladias (top left) and Maeko Plotena (top right) presented their research at the 8th Annual Binghamton University Undergraduate and Graduate Chemistry Conference. Sophia is advancing our work on peptide-based modulators of protein-protein interactions for cancer immunotherapy, while Maeko is developing peptide-based nanoparticles for drug and gene delivery.
Chase Mei (bottom left) and Amira Castillo (bottom right) also presented their research at the 2026 SUNY Undergraduate Research Conference (SURC). Chase is developing dual-specific peptides to modulate therapeutically important protein-protein interactions, while Amira is developing fast-dissolving microneedles for minimally invasive delivery of large biologics.
March 2026 - Our work, “Designed to Dissolve, Built to Deliver,” has been selected for Binghamton University’s Art of Science competition later this month! The work highlights a biodegradable microneedle array engineered for painless, minimally invasive transdermal delivery of large biologic therapeutics.
Feb 2026 - Dr. Fetse Joins the Editorial Board of Scientific Reports
We are pleased to share that Dr. John Fetse has joined the Editorial Board of Scientific Reports, a Nature Portfolio journal, following an invitation from the journal’s Chief Editor. In this role, Dr. Fetse will contribute his expertise to the peer-review and editorial process.
